It seemed appropriate that she would go off to a yoga class on this last day of the year. For her, Bikram's yoga and a change in her workplace were significant things that occurred in 2003. For me, it was the launch of bunnyblogger.com. Today her yoga teacher said there are people who move around you and people that move through you. She thought a little more about her teacher's words and thinks that those that move through us share energy and effect us in some way or another. They are the people who make you feel their impact, sometimes good, sometimes not so good but either way they leave an impression. Perhaps they help us to experience and live in the present and teach us the lessons we're here to learn. I feel grateful for my life, living here in a warm cozy condo (it's snowing today), and for my daily spa treatments that consist of cheek rubs, bunny pats and brushings. But I'm especially thankful for my freedom (I'm not confined to life in a cage). Leaps down the hall are especially fun as there are times that even a bunny feels the need to break out. That is, with the exception of the bedroom. It's off limits to me. On the odd occasion I sneak in and get under the bed (I watch closely for unaware friends who don't know to keep the door closed) where I play hide and seek between the boxes that hold extra sheets, cordless phones and other miscellaneous things. One time she had to tear apart the whole bed to get at me (hehehe).
I
found something on the floor today. After taking a little bunny bite
outta the top left corner, I realized this pretty, yellow, plastic coated
card was a karma coaching card
given to her by Pamela at the studio. It said "write down 1 person from
each decade of your life that you have postively affected". I misread
the card and thought it said "write down 1 person from each decade of
your life that has postively affected you". So I asked her who this person
might be. She said Neva definitely
comes to mind. Two books that she gave her many years ago have found a place
on the silver painted corner shelf in our living room. Neva said something
on her Christmas card this year, "through her own journey of self-discovery
she continues to learn the importance of creativity as spiritual expression
and connection to one's deepest self". She taught her many things way
back when she was with Greg and she realizes now, years later, how deeply
her books and words affected her. Neva is a "life coach" and I'm
sure she knows this but it really is apart of her artistry and who she is.
She has been a practitioner of it ever since she met her and probably long
before that.
At
times, I wonder about humans, specifically why they find humor in having
us pets wear hats. So here I am in a Santa hat trying to make her laugh
(and sure enough she squealed in delight when she saw this photoblog). Oh
well, I guess one time a year is not too much to ask. I wish all my readers a very warm and happy holiday season.
Today
I have on my angry face. Maybe angry is a little too strong to describe
how I felt ... surprised might be better. Late Sunday evening after enjoying
half price beer at the YBC she came back with four friends. They were laughing
a lot and talking with silly accents. They seemed to be having fun so I thought
I'd join in, check em all out and see what all the noise was about. I made
sure to mark all my usual spots by chinning my stuff just to make certain
they knew they were in my condo. I guess they weren't used to seeing a bunny
hop around as the two to the right insisted they have their picture taken
with me. When I had enough of them I meandered back into the safety of my
own home. Well, one followed me and stuck his hand in front of my face (in
my house) so I bit him. I feel bad because I think he meant only for me to
sniff him like you'd do for a dog. He probably just wanted to see how soft
I was. So this is my apology to Tony. I've never bit anyone before, and I
feel really bad (Tony I hope you'll forgive my bad manners).
Powerbook
G4's, the envy of most (especially if it's a 17-inch) and you're a
kitty and you can smell another kitty who's been around it. My friend's friend
lost his powerbook to a cat. I may go around and chin things (us bunnies have
a gland under our chin where we rub up against things to leave our scent)
but never would I dream of doing what that kitty did. The last time I did
that was when I sprayed her (which was totally out of affection) but it was
not received as that as I was promptly taken to the rabbit doctor the next
day and fixed. I certainly learnt my lesson. Oh and one other thing, people
always wonder if us bunnies can be litter trained. Of course we can! I'll
be in the living room and will run to my house in another room to get to my
aspen wood chips (they're much better than pine or cedar shavings as they
are known to cause liver damage). If I drop a pill (which is a nice word for
a poopie) here or there it's just to say this is my spot and not a sign of
being disobedient. You may see on my web cam that I can be very efficient
as I position my food dish so that I can eat and poop at the same time ;)
The
other day she was walking along the sidewalk on her way into work and as she
passed a Skytrain terminal a huge crowd of people spilled out. Amongst the
crowd, a man in a wheelchair emerged. They passed each other on the sidewalk
and in that brief moment she noticed many things about him ... his salon-cut
hair, the strong lines of his face and the sporty brown striped golf shirt
he wore that fell to where his legs should have been. Her eyes glistened momentarily
not because she felt sad for him but because she saw in his face a look of
determination and sense of purpose that she doesn't see very often in people.
Perhaps he didn't need his legs where he was going ...
She
went to Seattle
this weekend (I had to hold down the fort) with 3 of her best friends that
she's known since grade school. Seattle is only a 2.5 hour drive from Vancouver.
She feels so fortunate to have had her friends for as long as she has. They
have the best times just hanging out (this weekend it was in the very cool
and funky W hotel), being silly and teasing each other about their different
idiosyncrasies. They will be friends for life, they will share their ups,
their downs and they all know they will be there for each other no matter
what. We need to cherish our friends ... and Tana ... know that the friends
that you make today, may be the same ones that you have years from now. And
you'll get to come home after a weekend of giggling and shopping just like
they did.
She
bumped into a stalk of sunflowers today. You know those roundabouts
in the middle of the road where people grow flowers, well she couldn't resist
getting this shot when she gazed upon the big giants in the middle of the
road.
This
is story about mitts. She remembers her dad’s old brown leather
mitt and her red one that she used when she played softball as a kid. Today
she missed those mitts. Playing in a company softball tournament at Nat
Bailey stadium brought back all kinds of fond memories for her. The
special sounds that go along with baseball that she had forgotten about
… the crack of the bat, the smack of the ball when it hits the glove
and the callings of “look alive out there”, “heavy hitter”,
“hey, no lead-offs”. But mostly what she remembered today was
the times she spent with her dad when he was teaching her how to throw a
ball in the backyard with that old brown mitt. And when he would show up
at her games and she would see him standing behind the backcatch and smile
to her when she hit the ball or frown when she dropped it (that usually
meant more practicing in the backyard). It’s funny that before today
she never before made the connection between mitts and Mits (her dad’s
name).
I
wonder if its a coincidence that the worm virus and the blackouts occurred
at the same time. A worm tunnels around in darkness with no vision
… I too get to run through my tunnel but I just like the pitter patter
sound it makes. It does make me wonder though if there is a message in all
this dark stuff, e.g. viruses being spread around the Internet, terrorism,
SARS, etc. ... the creepy stuff that we can't see. I'm a firm believer that
light and goodness always prevail. Just look at NYC, after all they've been
through with 9/11, the blackout was a piece of cake. People simply walked,
helped others who needed it, directed traffic and generally tried to make
the best of it.
If you focus on the positive, good things will come to you. And if you
look at being in the dark as a negative, then you have to change that. And
I think the power companies now will have the support of governments to
upgrade which is a good thing cause I can see in the dark but my friend
can't.
Ahhh, a summer rain ... how refreshing it was. Hopefully its gonna help put out some of the fires burning in our province right now. I worry about my fellow buns in the forests.
My
friend came back with pretty flowers for the balcony today. There was this
boy with sparkly blue eyes who chatted with her in the garden shop. Sometimes
I think angels present themselves in unexpected ways. He told her about
his colourful balcony garden of a 1000 flowers (lobelia, clematis, roses,
etc.), a little story of 2 birds that adopted him and would fly into his
apartment and poop and how he only had one hummingbird visit him earlier
in the spring (that's probably to be expected since we live at the ocean's
edge). The heat of the past few weeks tired out everything so he was on
a search to refresh his garden just as she was. It was sprinkling lightly
as they spoke and pointed out different flowers that were particularly successful
or not. One even bit him, beware of purple flowers with thorns. He talked
of things like colour, contrast and negative space—an artist, no doubt.
He said he enjoyed the flowers but that they were more for the people who
lived in the building across from him. His neighbours would wave up to him
when they saw him out on his balcony gardening. It's funny how another person's
perspective can change how we look at things, don't ya think?. Tomorrow
I'll look at the flowers on our balcony but perhaps our neighbours too will
appreciate them just like the neighbours of the boy with sparkly eyes.
Today
I'm happy. My friend's taking a few days off work so we've been able
to hang out more. Other than giving me lots of pats and cheek rubs she's being
going to yoga 'a lot' (that's Ted's little saying). Yoga has changed her ...
physically, mentally and spiritually. This city seems to attract the very
health conscious (ask any Vancouverite about the Grouse
Grind and they'll know what you're talk'n about) so I guess it's not surprising
that we have one of the best studios in town, Yaletown
Yoga Studio. Although each class consists of the same 26 Hatha yoga postures,
it's the teachers who make the classes so enjoyable. Each has their own unique
way to inspire and guide her through her yoga practice. She says there is
something about this yoga that is truly amazing. The sculpture is from the
StoneAge Art Company
on Granville Island. She designed and developed their logo and website. The
sculpture is called 'Girl Bathing' but it reminds me of 'rabbit' posture.
Are
you wondering why I have a sad face?
It's because it's 35°C out and I have to hop around in a fur coat.
Also, it doesn't help that our condo is cement and heats up like a cooker.
I don't know what I'd do without my personal air cooler these past few weeks.
My
first bunny blog and I get to share an exciting post with you! At 8:30
this morning I nearly drowned myself. Ok, maybe I'm exaggerating a little
(I have been known to do this), but I certainly could have been one unhappy
bunny had my friend not been there.
I was thirsty (this heat just doesn't want to let up) so I took a drink of Canadian Springs water from my sippy bottle. I started it in my usual fashion (by giving it a little bunny bite to get it going) but I must have bit too hard because the stainless steel tube fell out and water began to pour into my home. At first, it was kinda of 'cool' on my paws but I soon realized that I'd be getting more than a drink. Bunnies don't take well to water ... think it has to do with the mechanics of how our legs work … have you ever seen a bunny swim. Anyways, the sound of me splish splashing around is not normal so my friend came to look to see what I was up to. Thank goodness she had not left for work yet as I would have been waterlogged when she got home later that day. She said to me, "I think we're gonna need to get a web cam". Hey, that might be kind of cool for bunnyblogger.com too. What do you think?
